No. 19

Sculpture made during a 10 day residency in Bungenäs, located on the Swedish island Gotland, 2011.

Bungenäs was the largest limestone quarry on Gotland but the mining was discontinued in 1963 and the military took possession of the area. From these two eras is now a landscape with scars and traces of human impact; the large quarry, a hundred covered bunkers, rock shelters, half demolished loading docks, and a number of buildings from different periods. Behind the Administrators Villa you can find remnants of a vegetable and rose garden entwined with the old military obstacle course. Since the practical aspect of the course is no longer of importance my work is a new addition to complete the track with it’s basic shapes and primary colors.
